RESTAURANT is a UK magazine for restaurant professionals and lovers. It concentrates on fine dining of the industry. Started in 2002, a simple query of “which are the fifty best restaurants in the world” has now led to an internationally influential ranking.
To achieve a reliable ranking, the world was divided into 26 regions and a chairperson is selected for each region based on his/her expert knowledge in order to choose a voting panel of that region. The panel consists of well-traveled chefs, restaurateurs and critics. Each voter was allowed to vote for five restaurants that they thought were the best in the world, but only allowed to vote no more than two within their own region. In total, there are 806 voters casting 4,030 votes. The World’s 50 Best Restaurants is then announced in an annual award ceremony in April. Since 2006, the Restaurant magazine has actually published the top 100 best restaurants.
