Relais & Châteaux is a unique collection of individually owned charming luxury properties. It began in 1954 when eight hotels between Paris and Nice joined forces for an advertising campaign. In 1972, the label “Relais Gourmands”, recently changed to “Grand Chefs”, was introduced to represent the finest contemporary signatures in the culinary world.

To be listed under this prestigious label, a restaurant has to be accepted through a rigorous application process along with multiple anonymous official quality audits. In addition, the restaurant must be recognized by the main national guides and food writers on a national or international basis as one of the best restaurants in the country.

With currently 160 Relais Gourmands spreading over five continents, each one of them must submit an average annual membership fee of more than €7,000 and comply with the quality standards of Relais & Châteaux based on the founding values defined by the 5Cs:

  • Courtesy, Charm, Character, Calm, Cuisine

Relais Gourmands represent an international culinary benchmark with a unique reflection of each of its own individual culture. This label ensures the quality excellence of setting, service, wine cellar and cuisine to your utmost satisfaction.
