RESTAURANT is a UK magazine for restaurant professionals and lovers. It concentrates on fine dining of the industry. Started in 2002, a simple query of “which are the fifty best restaurants in the world” has now led to an internationally influential ranking.
To achieve a reliable ranking, the world was divided into 26 regions and a chairperson is selected for each region based on his/her expert knowledge in order to choose a voting panel of that region. The panel consists of well-travelled chefs, restaurateurs and critics. Each voter was allowed to vote for seven restaurants that they thought were the best in the world, but only allowed to vote no more than four within their own region. In total, there are more than 900 voters casting over 6,000 votes. The World’s 50 Best Restaurants is announced during an award ceremony every April in London. Since 2006, the Restaurant magazine has published the top 100 best restaurants.
In recent years, the 50 Best list has expanded to region specific list, Asia and Latin America, by compiling results from voters of corresponding regions.
